She will hold one of her dolls and say, “You gotta baby, I gotta baby. They match!” She will find the crayons that match her outfit, she will give Charlotte the crayons that match her outfit, etc.

So, here they are. They are sisters. They match.

I can’t believe she’s already so big! She’s just over 10 pounds and 22” long and healthy! Honestly, Lucy dominated the appointment talking to the doctor the entire time. It’s a good thing he can multitask.

He asked us about her lip. I’m not sure what happened. It actually has 2 different cuts. One she says she did at church on the swing and the other one she woke up with the morning after the incident with Baby Arnold. Maybe he attacked her in the night?

Lucy has this amazing habit of sort of mumbling things and then you repeat what you think she said and she says, “Yeah, sure!” For example...

Lucy: “ice cream”
Me: “What? You want ice cream”
Lucy: “Yeah, sure!”

Lucy: “venture”
Me: “What? You want to go on an adventure”
Lucy: “Yeah, sure! That be great!”

So, on Sunday afternoon Reid took Lucy on a “venture.” It was a rainy day and we were planning on taking her to the pool, but since that didn’t work out he instead took her to the galleria to watch the ice skaters and eat ice cream. Lucy loves to “ice skate” around the house. All she really does is lean on a piece of furniture and kick up her back leg and say, “I ice-skating, I am!”

I sent Reid with a camera, but pictures aren’t really his thing. He said every time someone fell she would yell, “Oh! Be careful!” and that when a lady next to them was warming up she was doing stretches along with her.

These are the pictures I tried to take of them when they got back.

These are the pictures I tried to take of them when they got back.

These are the pictures Reid took on their adventure. The one on the right is her “ice skating.”

This is what Charlotte did while they were gone.

Well, Reid’s mom introduced herself as “Grandmama,” but for some reason Lucy was more interested in the more formal options, “Grandmother.” All weekend we got to hear “Grandmother, come play!” “Grandmother, wanna cook?”

Grandmother arrived on Thursday evening and pretty much just ate dinner and crashed. We woke up on Friday morning and went to the Houston Children’s Museum. It was a Target Sponsored Weekend so all the museums were free! Although there were lots of “tots” in the Tot Spot it was a great indoor play place to spend the morning.

Even the Sunday right after we had Charlotte, Reid still took Lucy to church. She loves Sunday School and I think it’s a good routine for her and habit to establish. Well, this past week she had a new couple for her teachers, the Beavers. Well, Lucy of course knows the names of all the wierd animals, yak, kookabura, jaguar, and beaver! I would love to know the conversation that went down when they introduced themselves, but all we know is that when Reid picked her up from Sunday School and they were leaving, Lucy yelled back over her shoulder, “Bye Beaver!”

This Sunday we woke up to Lucy yelling, “What happened my bed!” Reid went in to find Lucy standing in the very corner of her bed yelling and pointing at Baby Arnold, one of her dolls, and a little bit of poop that must have escaped from her pull-up. I know, gross, but it’s too funny not to share. Reid asked her what happened and she proceeded to explain to him, “Baby Arnold has stinky diaper. Needs to be changed. Get all clean!” Seriously, is she old enough to understand how to blame other people/dolls for her accidents! All morning she kept saying, “What happened my bed! Baby Arnold stinky!” Unbelievable.

After church we ran to Target, ironically to pick up more diapers, and she saw the lingerie ad on the end of an aisle and said, “Oh, look mama, she’s about to get in the shower!”

So, usually I keep this blog pretty dry and to the point. I have my reasons. One, it is much easier that way! I just have to post milestones, major updates, and big events. Two, I mean I don’t really know if anyone reads it, except that apparently people do because you all told me how hilarious/how mean I was for letting her do that so long after watching the video of Lucy falling asleep eating her lunch. If you haven’t watched it, you should. Three, what if creepy people are reading it! Well, if you’re creepy, stop it!

Lucy turned two on June 14 and something changed. It’s like all of the things we have always said and taught her clicked. I’m sure you’re thinking, “Wow! That’s great!” Well, not so fast. It all clicked and therefore she has decided to rebel against nearly all of it. She likes to put her elbows on the table while saying, “No elbows on the table. Hands on the table.” She puts stickers on Charlotte and says, “No stickers on Charlotte, stickers on Lucy.” (I definitely found stickers on Charlotte’s elbow the other day...) These are minor offenses I know, but there are major ones as well.

Due to this change in behavior, I’ve started doing even more reading about parenting. My most recent read was Love and Logic. It sounds great on paper, give your kid two choices that you can live with so they can feel more autonomous. When it comes time for you to make a big decision, you tell them they helped decide things all day, but now it’s your turn. It sounds logical, but my main question is, “Are two-year-olds logical?” We’ve been trying it, with a little success. Usually our two choices are countered with a third.

Me: “Apple Juice or Milk?”
Lucy: “I want Diet Coke.”

Me: “Do you want to go to bed now or in 10 minutes?”
Lucy: “I never want to go to bed.”

Me: “Do you want to wear a pink shirt or white shirt.”
Lucy: “I want to wear blue shirt.”

Ugh.

After a day of extreme frustration I called the Love & Logic Hotline (yes, they have one and yes, I actually called it) and asked a very nice woman what they recommended when Love and Logic doesn’t work. She of course said, when applied correctly it works most of the time for most kids, and offered to rush ship me a DVD. Sure, why not? We have yet to watch the DVD. After talking to some friends and family I have a few new strategies.

All of that to say, I ran upstairs to get dressed the other day and after about two minutes I yelled down the stairs, “Lucy, what are you doing.” Lucy replied, “Sittin’ in my chair.” I think, great, I have a few more minutes. She is just down stairs coloring at her table while sitting in her chair. I came downstairs to find this...

Yes, Elmo was as shocked as I was!

Oh, and my third reason for having a semi-lame family blog is have this other blog that’s even more cut-to-the-chase that people actually read too. I’ll be working on making it slightly more amusing, but probably still not that interesting to most of you unless your into that sort of thing.

I was so thankful & impressed. It turns out Lucy gets along really well with older men, a.k.a. Thomas, who just turned 3! They shared and chatted and even held hands. We must get them together more often!
I still need to post pictures from her actual birthday. We went to dinner at one of our favorite mexican restaurants and she lived it up! For now, here is a look at her party which she loved. It was just me, Reid, Charlotte, my parents, and Tapley! Most (all) of these pictures are stolen from her.

Lucy is very into imaginative play right now, so for her birthday her big gift was a kitchen with lots of pretend food.
